Ever feel out of place or alone?
Ever feel overwhelmed or under qualified ?
Ever feel unimportant or insignificant?
Ever feel undeserving or unworthy?
If you answered yes to any or all of the above, you are not alone. And let me tell you, God has a word for you today.
Feelings like those I listed above may feel valid at the time, but they are not true. Your enemy will use whatever he can to make you believe those lies. Meanwhile, God's promises are true. I love the words from the song, "Your Promises" (see music of the week).
"Doesn't matter what I feel. Doesn't matter what I see.
And in 1 John 3:20 we read, "God is greater than our feelings, and He knows everything." So, let's address each one of those feelings, shall we?
Feeling out of place or alone...
There are many verses in the Bible that discount this lie. One of my favorites is Deuteronomy 31:8. "Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; He will never fail you nor abandon you." I love that this verse explains how you are never out of place because God has already gone ahead of you. He has placed you right where He wants you. And you are never alone because He is always with you, living inside of your soul in His Holy Spirit.
Feeling overwhelmed or under qualified?
The characters in the Bible may seem like super heroes, but really, they were average people who made tons of mistakes. One of my favorite guys was Abram/Abraham. He was called by God to leave his homeland and everything he knew. But he went with God anyway. Talk about overwhelming! But the Bible says, "Abram believed the Lord and the Lord counted him as righteous because of his faith" (Genesis 15:6). God helps us when we feel overwhelmed; we are just called to have faith in Him.
As for feeling under qualified....join the club! Most of the time, when I sense God is calling me to do something, I feel under qualified. My list of accomplishments or qualifications don't measure up in my own eyes to the job I'm supposed to complete. Again, your enemy, and mine, is trying to stop us in our tracks. He doesn't want us to try because we will succeed if we have God's help! I love how Paul explains this type of situation. "It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God" (2 Corinthians 3:5). God doesn't always call the qualified; He qualifies the called.
Feeling unimportant or insignificant?
Again, this feeling is a lie, plain and simple. The Creator of the universe sees you and made you. No detail of your life goes unnoticed. He even knows the number of hairs on your head! David wrote in Psalm 139, "How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can't even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand!" (Psalm 139:17-18). See? God is an obsessed parent. He thinks about you all the time! You matter to Him!
Feeling undeserving or unworthy?
The fact is, God is like a parent. He is a good, good father. As Pastor Josh Keller says (from my church), "God is not a reflection of your father, but He's the perfection of your father." Since He made you, He loves you, for God is love. We are all deserving of love.
But on the other hand, since God is a righteous, holy God, we are undeserving. We can't earn His kind of love. His kind of love is unfathomable. But if we have Jesus as our Savior, His love is ours. "May you experience the love of Christ, thought it is too great to understand fully" (Ephesians 3:19). And nothing, no matter what we feel, can separate us from His love.
"And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Let's just rest in that right there. God's true and powerful word for you...and me... today!
